The Summer Intensive Reading & Math Program operates Monday - Friday for one week in July and one week in August.

Lessons are 90 minutes in length. If your child is new to Sounds Apart Literacy Education, a pre-assessment will occur in late June.

All programming is designed by Eryn Coughlin (Sounds Apart Literacy Edu.), and taught by Mount Royal University Teacher Candidates and recent MRU B.Ed graduates.

LITERACY: Areas of Targeted Support

• Phonemic Awareness: blending, segmenting, deleting, and phonemic awareness with print

• Phonics and Spelling Conventions

• Reading Fluency and Reading Comprehension

• Syntax, Grammar, Sentence Writing, and Paragraph Writing

• Morphology and Vocabulary

NUMERACY: Areas of Targeted Support

Trained to use Marilyn Wardrop’s OG-Academic Math Education, MRU TCs will implement multisensory math lessons that focus on:

• Basic Facts: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division (1, 2, and 3+ digit)

• Foundational Concepts: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division (1, 2, and 3+ digit)

EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING SKILLS Class: Self-regulatory strategy development for sentence and paragraph WRITING

• For students entering grades 4-6

• Offered for one week in July

• Guides students towards achieving grade-level writing proficiency using self-regulation skills to increase motivation, investment, organization, and overall attitude about writing. '
